Intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM) describes a group of techniques used to monitor neural pathways during neurosurgical, orthopedic, peripheral nerve, and vascular surgeries.
IONM is used to identify impending damage to the nervous system and to map the structures of the nervous system.
Commonly used techniques are:
- Somatosensory evoked potentials (SSEP)
- Motor evoked potentials (MEP)
- Brainstem auditory evoked potentials (BAEP)
- Visual evoked potentials (VEP)
- Electrocochleography ( ECochG)
- Electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction monitoring
- Electroencephalography (EEG) and electrocorticography (ECoG)
- Cortical and subcortical motor mapping
- Prof. Dr Dr K. Gousias will explain some basic principles of intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring and brain mapping.
- Participants would have the opportunity to discuss with Prof Dr Dr K. Gousias after the lecture in form of questions and answers.
